Pigeon Island  - Güvercin Adası

As in 2002, no pictures of Efez. I must take some time to scan in the old ones that I have somewhere. But at least, this time  I took some nice photographs at Pigeon Island and  Ladies Beach, the wide sandy beach close to the city center. Again we spent some nice days on top of the old bazar of Kusadasi in Özhan Pansiyon (Tel. +(90) 256 614 29 32 – 612 52 83, Dağ Mah. Kibris Cad. No. 5).  

Turkey's major holiday resort of the Aegean Sea, Kuşadası, which means "Bird Island" gets its name from a small island, called  Güvercin Adası or  Güvercinada  (Pigeon Island). The island is connected to the mainland by a causeway. The most prominent feature of the island is the Byzantine fortress restored and improved in 1834 and now functioning as a museum. 

The most famous beach at Kusadasi is Kadınlar Plajı or Ladies Beach. It is a long and wide sandy beach, located 2.5 km south of the town and is served by dolmuş almost every 10 minutes. Halfway Pigeon Island and Ladies Beach at about 1 km south of the town is Yılancı Burnu which is more quiet but the beach is made of pebbles rather than the fine sand at Ladies Beach. 

The Öküz Mehmet Paşa Kervansaray is Kusadasi's most prominent landmark. This ancient Ottoman caravanserai is now a hotel. The cafeteria next to it, on the side of the pedestrianised Barbaros Hayrettin Caddesi opposite the PTT, is the place in town to have a cold drink, ice cream or snack.
