Istanbul - Day 4
Archeological Museum
Museum of The Ancient Orient

Museum of the Ancient Orient -
Ishtar Gate
of Babylon
Halfway between Gülhane
Parkı and Topkapı Sarayı is a most
interesting museum complex, the Arkeoloji Müzeleri.
The museum complex consists of nine separate exhibit areas, of which the
most important are the Archeological Museum or Arkeoloji Müzesi
and the Museum of the Ancient Orient or Eski Şark
Eserler Müzesi.
Both museums contain rich collections of which the
Alexander sarcophagus and the glazed brick friezes from ancient Babylon's
Ishtar Gate dating from the reign of Nebuchadnezzar II (605 - 562
BC) are among the highlights.
We started day 4 of our city with a 2 hour visit to
the Archeological Museum and Museum of the Ancient Orient, after which we
headed further to the Topkapi palace.
